Division of Sport Management

The Sport Management program at Texas A&M celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2013. It is not only the largest such program in the U.S., but is universally considered by both academic and industry rankings as one of the top 5 programs in the country.

Vision

To impact the business of sport through challenging educational and preparatory opportunities

Mission

  1. Train and mentor the next generation of scholars for careers in the professorate.
  2. Provide foundational and professional classroom education, combined with real-world opportunities.
  3. Produce future organizational managers, and global citizens, for sport careers and beyond.

This mission is accomplished by disseminating applied sport management knowledge and training, advancing theoretical research on sport organization management, and dedicated service to the state, nation, and world, with attention focused on equity and inclusion. Accordingly, we educate our students and the public in the science of sport organization dynamics to meet the ever-changing economic, cultural, and lifestyle growth patterns in the marketplace. The program meets numerous Imperatives established by Vision 2020 to move Texas A&M into the ranks of the “ten best public universities in the nation.”

The faculty consists of 13 members of all academic ranks, experts in virtually all Sport Management disciplines, who are recognized as outstanding teachers and scholars in the U.S. and internationally. We provide a professional and comprehensive education in the classroom, combined with real-world opportunities through internships with our partner organizations, to produce future leaders of the sport industry.

Our Former Students are employed in virtually every segment of the sport business: Professional sports (NFL, NBA, MLB/MiLB, MLS), media and communications operations (ESPN, Fox Sports, Comcast), college athletic departments (TAMU and dozens of other universities), high school athletic departments, law firms, sport marketing operations, charitable and youth organizations (Little League, Shriners Challenge Baseball, YMCA, Christian camps), country clubs, health and fitness businesses, and many others.

Students also have the opportunity to engage in international experiences such as a 5-week summer study abroad program in Germany and Austria, spring break Field Trip to Munich, Olympic Studies programs to Greece, and other options such as programs in Trinidad & Tobago and Puerto Rico, with others to be added in the future.
