The Department of Health and Kinesiology congratulates our Teachers of the Year! The Health and Kinesiology Teachers of the Year are voted on and chosen by the senior upper level Health and Kinesiology undergraduate students by a ballot that is distributed to them in class each fall and spring semester. At the end of the spring semester, the votes are tallied from fall and spring and the Health and Kinesiology Teachers of the Year is determined. The recipient of the Emil Mammaliga Award is selected by their peers and former recipients of the award.

Dr. Ranita Misra (Associate Professor, HLTH) was honored with a Distinuished Service Award presented by the National Health Science Honor Society of Eta Sigma Gamma on October 13, 2006. This award is presented to a person or persons in recognition of outstanding services to furthering the goals of Eta Sigma Gamma. It can be presented by the National Honorary (as decided by the Awards Committee) and a collegiate or alumni chapter (as determined by locally designated committees). Dr. Misra is pictured (at left) with Mal Goldsmith, the past President of Eta Sigma Gamma National office.
Dr. Buzz Pruitt has received the prestigious American Association for Health Education (AAHE) Scholar Award for 2006. The AAHE Scholar Award is presented annually to recognize an association member who has had a scholarly record for a number of years as evidenced by publications and presentations related to health promotion/education. Dr. Pruitt is the 32nd recipient of this award and was recognized during the 2006 AAHE National Convention, held Friday, April 28, at 12pm in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Department of Health and Kinesiology congratulates our Distinguished Honor Graduates! These student recipients are selected by their respective divisional chairpersons, Dr. Stephen Crouse (Kinesiology), Dr. James Eddy (Health) and Dr. Michael Sagas (Sport Management) for their outstanding academic and leadership achievements and are recognized during the College of Education and Human Development ceremony held prior to graduation ceremonies at the end of each semester. The recipients for the past year are pictured below.

Six HLKN students received awards during the 2006 Student Research Week, held March 27-31. The winners are: Jacqueline McDowell (Ph.D., kinesiology), Greg Miller (Ph.D., exercise physiology), Gabriel Anzueto (junior, community health), Lindsay Lambard (senior, community health), Amanda Lopaz (senior, community health major), and Hormuz Nicolwala (freshman, biology major). The J.L. and Sydney Huffines Institute for Sports Medicine and Human Performance has announced the recipients for six graduate student research presentation travel grants and five student research grants for 2006. For more information, please view the linked PDF.
Susan Williams (Senior Office Associate) was selected as a 2006 President's Meritorious Service Award recipient and received her award on Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, during the annual University Holiday Coffee celebration. Every year, the President of the Texas A&M honors staff members for their meritorious service to the University. Faculty and Staff in the Department of Health and Kinesiology have benefited from her excellent work over the past 20 years, and this is a richly deserved recognition of her contributions.
