Teacher Certification

HLKN offers two undergraduate programs that include a teacher certification: School Health and Physical Education. Students in either program are certified to teach at all levels, including secondary, upon graduation. In addition, students have the ability to complete electives, which allow certification in additional areas beyond teaching or coaching.

If you have any questions about certification tests, forms or procedures, contact David Castillo at (979) 845-5360 or david.castillo@tamu.edu.

The Certification Process Flow Chart outlines the process you will take from acceptance to your upper-level coursework to graduation.

School Health

  • K-12 teaching certification in Health
  • Optional additional teaching fields: math, science, social students, English/language arts, special education
  • Optional minor in Coaching

Physical Education

  • K-12 teaching certification in Physical Education
  • Optional additional teaching fields: math, science, social students, English/language arts, special education

Over 80% of graduates from these two HLKN programs secure a job immediately following graduation.

To be certified through HLKN, students must be enrolled in the School Health or Physical Education undergraduate programs, and be admitted to a professional phase in order to participate in student teaching and apply for their teaching certification. Students are placed in school districts that are tailored to meet their needs and interests, with the assistance of the student teaching office.
