M.S. in Sport Management, Traditional Delivery

The Masters of Science in Sport Management program provides students the skill sets necessary to become future leaders of sport organizations as administrators, managers, and decision makers. Students are prepared for careers in university and interscholastic athletic departments, professional sports, media and communications operations, health and country clubs, charitable and youth organizations, as well as a diversity of roles in the areas of sport marketing and promotions, facility management and planning, event management and planning, and activity programming. Both thesis and non-thesis tracks are available to students in the M.S. program.

Admissions

The in-residence M.S. program admits beginning students only in fall semesters. Applications for Fall 2016 must be completed no later than February 1, 2016.

Complete application packets must include a current resume and two letters of recommendation from faculty members who can speak to the student’s academic potential as a graduate student. For international applicants to be considered for admission, TOEFL scores must equal or exceed a total score of 100, with a minimum of 25 in each of the four areas of reading, listening, speaking and writing.

Only COMPLETE applications will be reviewed. A COMPLETE application includes:

  • Apply Texas application
  • Transcripts from all institutions of higher education that applicants have attended
  • Three letters of recommendation (at least two must be from a previous professor who can attest to applicant’s academic abilities and potential as a graduate student)

M.S. in Sport Management, Online Delivery

The Online Masters of Science in Sport Management provides a specialized education in sport management for individuals interested in sport marketing and sales, fiscal management, personnel management and development and athletics administration and control. This degree is aimed at those students who are full-time employees or working professionals, and is targeted to those individuals looking for a flexible academic schedule:

  • All 36 credit hours are available online
  • No thesis required to complete degree

Classes include a research core, the sport management core, electives and field experience. Students can follow a full-time or part-time schedule.

Graduates of the program are qualified to gain employment in a variety of capacities within a variety of segments in the sport industry. The specific segments in which students will likely gain employment are in country clubs, health and fitness clubs, collegiate athletic departments, community sport organizations (e.g., YMCA's) and professional sport organizations. The training in the program will prepare graduates to enter these segments in positions such as sport marketing and sales, fiscal management, personnel management and development, and athletics administration and control.

Admissions

The admission process to the online M.S. program is competitive. There is a limit to the number of students admitted each semester. Students admitted in Fall 2015 typically had a GPA well in excess of 3.0 with an average of 4.3 years experience in the sport industry.

  • Three letters of recommendation (Preferred: at least one must be from a previous professor who can attest to your academic abilities). Note: If a significant amount of time has lapsed since receiving your undergraduate degree and you are unable to contact a professor, you may substitute professional/work references in lieu of the professor letter of recommendation; if this is true about you, you may want to take the GRE.
  • Although not required, a candidate may use GRE scores to enhance the application.
  • Statement of Purpose (please explain how an M.S. in Sport Management from Texas A&M will help you reach your career goals, as well as why you want to complete this degree online)
  • Your current resume

Applicants will be notified of the admission decision approximately 45 days following the application deadline. Only completed applications will be reviewed.
