The proposed area of concentration is designed to serve students who are in good academic standing with the University (2.0+ GPR) and are specifically seeking an interdisciplinary degree plan which provides preparation for further study in wide-variety of sport-related fields or careers such as non-profit sports groups, youth sports institutions and community agencies focused on sports. Curriculum will be designed to train and prepare students to become leaders, not managers, in sport-related agencies and businesses. The proposed concentration area is distinguished from existing majors because it would directly be focused on leadership behaviors to populations and careers underserved by the sport management and/or the recreation, parks and tourism majors. The Sports Leadership curriculum will prepare students to work in often overlooked areas of employment like community agencies (e.g. Boys and Girls Clubs), youth sports institutions (e.g. youth sports clubs) and non-profit agencies (e.g. Shriners Hospitals for Children baseball tournaments). Yet, the focus of the curriculum will be on the attainment of leadership, rather than managerial, skills and competencies.
If one-on-one advising is required or to confirm degree audit clearance for graduation, please make an appointment with the advisor.
