Undergraduate Admissions Information

FRESHMEN ADMISSIONS

Freshmen applicants apply to the programs through Texas A&M University. Those who declare EDHL, EDKI or EDSM as majors who are admitted to the University will be accepted into those programs. Students must meet the requirements to be admitted to the professional phase (upper level) of the program once they are in the program. Requirements for each program are to complete all prerequisite coursework and have the minimum GPR listed below:

  • Health: minimum 2.5 GPR. 
  • Kinesiology*: minimum 2.5 GPR; 
  • Sport Management*: minimum 2.0 GPR.

*For Sport Management and Kinesiology - Physical Education Teacher Education having the minimum GPR does not guarantee admission to professional phase, students must submit an application that includes experience, program GPRs, etc for successful admission to professional phase.

TRANSFER ADMISSIONS

Transfer applicants apply for admission through Texas A&M University. Applicants must meet all university and college requirements for admission.

  • University requirements include 24 hours of completed coursework and minimum 2.5 GPR.
  • College of Education and Human Development requirements include minimum 2.75 GPR, completion of 2 lab sciences, preferably BIOL 1406, CHEM 1411 or PHYS 1401 AND MATH 1324 and MATH 1325. Students must have grades on their transcripts at the time of review to be considered for admission.

*For Sport Management and Kinesiology - Physical Education Teacher Certification having the minimum GPR does not guarantee admission to professional phase, students must submit an application that includes experience, program GPRs, etc. for successful admission to professional phase.

Transfer applicants are reviewed based on GPR and completion of required courses for transferring. Students with transfer GPR of 3.0 and better are given preference.

Guidelines for Transfer Applicants by Program

Health: Applicants who are seeking transfer admission to this program should complete BIOL 1406, CHEM 1411, MATH 1324 and MATH 1325 for admission. Once admitted to A&M in this program, students will need to complete a total of 34 hours of prerequisite coursework for admission to the professional phase. Other prerequisite coursework that is recommended is ENGL 1301 and SPCH 1315; and PHED 1304. Students may also take BIOL 2401 and 2402 to substitute for BIOL 319 and 320 for this option.

Kinesiology-Exercise Science: These programs require 37 hours of prerequisite coursework to be admitted to the professional phase of the program. This program includes 32 hours of science coursework. Students in these programs are encouraged to complete at least 24 hours of the science coursework prior to 60 completed hours. The Texas Common Course Numbers for the required science coursework on the exercise science degree plan (Applied Exercise Physiology, Basic Exercise Physiology and Motor Behavior options in the Kinesiology degree) are BIOL 1406, BIOL 1407, CHEM 1411, CHEM 1412, PHYS 1401 and PHYS 1402. The remaining 8 hours (Anatomy and Physiology I and II) must be taken at A&M. Other prerequisite coursework that students should complete include MATH 1324 and 1325 (required for transfer); ENGL 1301 and ENGL 2311 or SPCH 1315; and, PHED 1301.

Kinesiology-Physical Education Teacher Certification: Applicants who are seeking transfer admission to this program should complete BIOL 1406, PHYS 1401, MATH 1324 and MATH 1325. Once admitted to A&M in this program, students will need to complete a total of 36 hours of prerequisite coursework for admission to the professional phase. Other prerequisite coursework that can be taken prior to admission to A&M and the program and is recommended is ENGL 1301 and 1302 or 2311; and PHED 1301. Students may also take BIOL 2401 and 2402 to substitute for BIOL 319 and 320 for this option.

Sport Management: Applicants who are seeking transfer admission to this program should complete BIOL 1406 or GEOL 1403 or CHEM 1411 or PHYS 1401^, MATH 1324 and MATH 1325 for admission. Once admitted to A&M in this program, students will need to complete a total of 12 hours of prerequisite coursework, 30 hours of core curriculum and 45 degree plan hours for admission to the professional phase. Other prerequisite coursework that is recommended is ENGL 1301 and 2311; SPCH 1315; and ECON 2302. Students are also required to show sport industry experience (volunteer or paid) and leadership/community service activities in order to be admitted to professional phase.
^Any two sciences that meet Tier 1 science core curriculum at A&M will be considered. Check with admissions for specific course numbers of courses that meet this requirement.
