Student Recreation Center

sturec1This state of the art recreation facility opened in 1997 on the West Campus.  Paid for by student fees, this building spared no expense in creating one of the leading facilities of its type in the nation. 

One is easily impressed by the climbing wall, multi-pool aquatic area, aerobic and spinning studios, handball/racquetball/squash courts, archery range, indoor running track, and multi-purpose gyms.  

The aquatic portion of the facility includes a 20 yard shallow water therapy style pool, a 25 yd.x50 meter multi-lane racing pool with moveable bulkheads, a 25x25 meter, 18 feet deep dive well with numerous diving boards and platforms, a 25 yard multi lane and free form outdoor pool, and 3 hot-tub/spa facilities. 

Although the Student Recreation Center is maintained and operated by the Recreation Sports Department of TAMU, the Activity Program offers a wide variety of classes with in the facility, including archery, basketball, step aerobics, spinning, cardio-kickboxing, handball, rock climbing, several levels of scuba and a wide variety of aquatic classes. 

Equipment for these classes is provided jointly by the Division of Recreational Sports and Health & Kinesiology.
