SPMT Centers and Labs

Center for Sport Management Research and Education

The Center for Sport Management Research and Education (CSMRE) was formally approved by Texas A&M as a research center in December of 2006. It is designed to be a collaborative venture between the division of sport management and the Aggie Athletics, in conjunction with faculty in numerous other academic departments on the Texas A&M campus.

The CSMRE is a standalone organization intended to develop the sport management program into a national and international leader in sport management research and education. The Center hosts the Trott Lecture Series in Sport Management. This series has attracted world-renowned scholars and industry leaders and has provided the university community with pertinent and cutting edge knowledge. The Center also provides educational outreach to numerous sport stakeholders (e.g., high school athletic programs, collegiate athletic organizations, professional sport franchises) through annual symposiums and conferences pertinent to the development of current sport management research and practices.

Laboratory for Diversity in Sport

The Laboratory for Diversity in Sport is dedicated to producing and disseminating research related to all forms of diversity within the sport and leisure context. Founded in 2003, the purpose of the Laboratory is to examine and seek to understand how such diversity impacts team and organization performance, as well as people's affect and behaviors.

As the world continues to change and diversify, so to do the persons with whom people associate. People are different with respect to demographics, values and attitudes, educational and professional backgrounds, and various other group memberships. Thus, within sport organizations and athletic teams, people are now working alongside dissimilar others, more so than ever before. Research from the Laboratory is aimed at investigating under-represented persons and groups, diverse dyads, heterogeneous teams, and individuals' outcomes when surrounded by dissimilar others. Such research allows for a greater understanding of how diversity impacts individuals and teams, as well as the benefits of diversity.

Laboratory for the Study of Intercollegiate Athletics

For some, this means working with professional sports, minor league sports or any of the venues that sport provides. However, one of the labs that serve students who have an interest in the collegiate sporting world is the Laboratory for the Study of Intercollegiate Athletics (LSIA).

Established in the fall of 2003, the LSIA is an interdisciplinary research and training laboratory. The primary mission of the LSIA is to advance and further develop the management of the intercollegiate athletics community through scholarly and progressive inquiry. The lab examines major concepts and issues related to the management of intercollegiate athletics while generating current and applicable research.
