The Texas A&M Special Populations Learn Aquatics with Aggie Students Helping (SPLASH) is a water activity program designed to benefit both Aggie students and the local community.
This program is designed to prepare undergraduate majors in Health and Kinesiology and other related programs for working with children with special needs. With this intent, the participants must be between the ages of 5 -21, the ages that receive public school education. This age group is used to better prepare the A&M students for their teaching careers.
During this program, your child will be assigned to an Aggie buddy. This buddy will perform a simple assessment of your child's swimming skills. Based upon this assessment, as well as your child's interests, lesson plans are developed to guide each week's activities. At the end of the 5-week session, the parents will receive a progress report, and the student will receive a certificate of participation. Parents are encouraged to share information regarding their child and family's interests as well as any other pertinent information.
Splash takes place on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Student Rec Center Instructional pool. The number of participants is limited to 12 children. You may only sign up for one session during a semester, and the cost is $55 per session. This nominal charge for the program covers the cost to utilize the A&M facilities.
The program consists of 2 sessions during the Fall semester and 2 sessions during the Spring semester. Each session will consist of one meeting a week for 5 consecutive weeks. During each meeting, your child will be working with their Aggie buddy to assist in developing swimming and fitness skills.
Registration is done online in a 2-step format. The first step is registering and paying through the Texas A&M Marketplace. You may choose which session you would like to register your child for, either the first or second session offered during the semester. The marketplace link is located next to the session dates. When a session is full you will no longer be able to sign up for the session. Once you have registered through the Marketplace, you will receive an e-mail stating that your order has been placed.
The second step is to download three forms: the medical waiver, media consent, and supplemental health information:
