With over 40,000 members, the NSCA is the largest exercise-related scientific organization in the world with a mission of supporting and disseminating research-based knowledge and its practical application to improve athletic performance.
Dr. Hoffman holds a unique perspective in his sport science background. Prior to his academic career he signed free agent contracts with the NY Jets and Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL and the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL. He is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Health and Exercise Science at the College of New Jersey; has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles, 6 books, and 12 book chapters with an emphasis on physiological adaptations to resistance training and performance enhancement nutrition; has been cited over 1000 times in the literature since 1996 and has received over $800,000 to support primarily performance enhancement-related research.
In addition, Dr. Hoffman was a professional football player in the NFL; a college strength and conditioning coach and football defensive coordinator; and, has consulted with the NSCA and Major League Baseball in crafting steroid policies.
