Dr. Ballard Appointed as Ponder Chair

Dr. Danny Ballard has been named as holder of the Leonard D. Ponder Chair in Health and Kinesiology.  Dr. Ballard has had a stellar career as a health professional and through her works has proven that she will provide strong leadership in support of the Ponder Chair.  A committee was established to review Dr. Ballard's information pertaining to the award, and the committee voted unaimously to support Dr. Ballard's nomination as recipient of this chair.  The chair was established to honor Dr. Ponder's work in the area of promoting health in children and adolescents.  Congratulations Dr. Ballard!

Guidry Receives NIH Honor

Dr. Jeffery J. Guidry has been invited to participate as a memeter of a special emphasis panel on behalf of the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  The SEP reviews applications for the NCMHD Research Infrastructure In Minority Institutions (RIMI) Programs.  The RIMI Program awards are intended to build, strengthen, and enhance the capacity of minority-serving institutions to engage in research and research training that ultimately will contribute to reducing or eliminating health disparities in the United States.  

Setting The Standard In Service To HLKN

Several members of the Department of Health and Kinesiology were honored for their years of service to the department and to Texas A&M University.  This honor was given to them at the opening faculty meeting this year.  The department recognized Carl Gabbard (Professor, Motor Neuroscience) and Charles Shea (Professor, Motor Neuroscience) for 30 years of accepting the mission of "Transforming Lives" in Health and Kinesiology.

Also recogized at the opening faculty meeting were Danny Kniffin (Senior Lecturer, Exercise Physiology)Ron McBride (Professor, Pedagogy), and Kirstin Brekken-Shea (Senior Lecturer, Physical Education Activity Program).  They have all served the department for 20 years.  Thank you all for everything you do for the Department of Health and Kinesiology!
