B.S. in Kinesiology Applied Exercise Physiology

This degree is offered to prepare and educate students who wish to enter the field of applied exercise science. Students are exposed to a strong science background making them excellent candidates for employment opportunities in exercise related areas (cardiac rehabilitation, corporate or private fitness, personal training), advanced graduate studies (clinical or sport physiology), or professional school (nursing, medical, occupational therapy, or physical therapy). Most of the course prerequisites for these areas of study are included in the course work under this track.

There are two phases to this degree program: pre-professional phase and professional phase.  Students must complete pre-requisite courses designated on the degree plan before applying to the professional phase.  Entrance to professional phase is a COMPETITIVE process. The number of applicants to be accepted will be determined by the number of faculty and available lab facilities.  Beginning, September 1, 2004, up to 60 students may be accepted during the academic year (24 in the Fall, 24 in the Spring and 12 in the Summer).  Students will be judged by the following criteria: overall GPR, math and science GPR, volunteer work and experience related to the field, number of math and science courses transferred to Texas A&M and the number of pre-requisite courses enrolled in during the semester in which they apply to professional phase. While a minimum GPR of 2.25 is necessary to apply to professional phase, actual GPRs of students admitted may be higher depending on the pool of applicants for that semester.

The professional phase application is generally due March 1 for summer admittance, July 1 for fall admittance and October 1 for spring admittance.  Contact your advisor for the exact date the semester you are applying.  Click here to access the professional phase application.  Complete it on-line, print it and submit it to your advisor.
