Undergraduate Admissions

Freshman

Freshman admissions, for students with no previous college credit, must apply through Texas A&M's Office of Admissions. The B.S. in Health Allied Health and School Health options, the B.S. in Community Health and the B.S. in Kinesiology Applied Exercise Physiology, Basic Exercise Physiology, and Motor Behavior options are becoming impacted majors. Admission to these programs will be limited.

Change of Major

Students must submit a change of major application for degrees in Health, Kinesiology, Sport Management, University Studies-Sport Conditioning, and University Studies-Dance. Links to each request is within the section below for each option. 

Limited Admissions

  • B.S. in Allied Health
  • School Health
  • B.S. in Community Health
  • B.S. in Kinesiology Applied Exercise Physiology, Basic Exercise Physiology, Motor Behavior 

Note: Applicants are reviewed by a committee and admitted on a competitive basis. Meeting the minimum requirements listed does not guarantee admission.

Change of major applications will be available:

  • Fall 2017 – Opens September 3rd; Closes September 20th
  • Spring 2018 – TBD
  • Summer 2018 – TBD

Prospective change of major students must meet the minimum change of major requirements detailed below at the time of application. Students will be notified no later than 10 business days after the application deadline on September 20th which is October 4th, 2017.

To complete the change of major process, accepted applicants must attend the mandatory Change of Major Processing Meeting.  Details about this meeting are in the email you will receive if approved.

Before submitting a change of major application, applicants are encouraged to research the degree they wish to pursue.

Informational Sessions

The department is offering a change of major informational sessions for those interested in changing their major to one of the following degree options: Health, Kinesiology, Sport Management, and University Studies (Sports Conditioning and Dance Concentration).  If you are interested, please attend one of the informational sessions to learn more about the majors, and the change of major process.  Advisors will be there to host a question and answer period.

*It is not required to attend an informational session to apply to change your major.

Change of Major to Health

(Allied Health, School Health, Community Health)

Requirements: Must be met at the time of application.

  • Must have a minimum Texas A&M GPR of 2.75
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 graded hours at Texas A&M.
  • Must have completed four of the required courses with B average and a minimum grade of C
    • MATH 140/141 and 142 (or equivalents)
    • two of the following sciences: BIOL 107 (or equivalent), CHEM 101/111 (or equivalent), *BIOL 319 (BIOL 2401) or BIOL 320 (BIOL 2402)
  • Students with fewer than 80 total hours (A&M and transfer hours) have preference.
  • Note: Applicants are reviewed by a committee and admitted on a competitive basis. Meeting the minimum requirements listed does not guarantee admission.

*BIOL 2401 and BIOL 2402 are not direct equivalents for BIOL 319 and 320 can substitute for this degree. Students must take either BIOL 2401 and 2402 at a community college or take BIOL 319 or 320 at A&M. BIOL 2401 is not a prerequisite for BIOL 320.

Change of Major to Kinesiology - Exercise Science

Requirements: Must be fulfilled at the time of application.

  • Must have a minimum Texas A&M GPR of 2.50.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 graded hours at Texas A&M.
  • Must have completed four of the required courses with a minimum grade of C
    • both MATH 141 and 142 (or equivalents)
    • two of the following sciences: BIOL 107 (or equivalent), PHYS 201 (or equivalent), BIOL 319 (*BIOL 2401) or BIOL320 (*BIOL 2402)
  • Students interested in changing their major to Dance Science must have passed an audition with the Dance faculty.  For more information, refer to the Dance Science web page here.
  • Note: Applicants are reviewed by a committee and admitted on a competitive basis. Meeting the minimum requirements listed does not guarantee admission.

Change of Major to University Studies-Sport Conditioning

  • Must have completed BIOL 111, or equivalent with a D or better.
  • Must have a minimum Texas A&M GPR of 2.00
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 graded hours at Texas A&M.
  • Note: Applicants are reviewed by a committee and admitted on a competitive basis. Meeting the minimum requirements listed does not guarantee admission.
  • For the University Studies, Sport Conditioning degree, the Coaching minor is required and built into the degree requirements. Thus students must choose one additional minor from the list provided here. Please note that the second minor cannot also be from the College of Education and Human Development.

Change of Major to University Studies-Dance

Requirements: Must be completed at the time of application.

  • Must have a minimum Texas A&M GPR of 2.00
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 graded hours at Texas A&M.
  • Students interested in changing their major to University Studies Dance must have passed an audition with the Dance faculty.  For more information, refer to the Dance Concentration web page here.
  • Note: Applicants are reviewed by a committee and admitted on a competitive basis. Meeting the minimum requirements listed does not guarantee admission.
  • Must choose two minors from the list provided here. Please note that only one minor can be from the College of Education and Human Development.

Dance Application


Transfers

The BS in Health Allied Health and School Health options, the B.S. in Community Health and the B.S. in Kinesiology Applied Exercise Physiology, Basic Exercise Physiology, and Motor Behavior options are all impacted majors. Admission to these programs is limited.

For questions about transferring into HLKN, contact Casey Ricketts at 979-862-7167 or cricketts@tamu.edu. In addition to Texas A&M admission requirements, transfer applicants must follow HLKN transfer admissions requirements:

  • Minimum 2.75 GPR
  • Completion of 24 transfer hours
  • Must have grades on transcript at time of review to be considered for admission

Students with a GPR of 3.0 or higher is preferred.

Additional guidelines for transfers:

Complete four of the required courses with B average and a minimum grade of C

  • Complete MATH 1324 and MATH 1325 (or equivalents)
  • Complete two of the following: BIOL 1413 or BIOL 1406 and 1407 (or equivalents), CHEM 1411, *BIOL 2401, *BIOL 2402
  • Recommended (but not required) courses: ENGL 1302, SPCH 1315, PHED 1304

*BIOL 2401 and BIOL 2402 are not direct equivalents for BIOL 319 and 320 but can substitute for this degree.  Students must take either BIOL 2401 and 2402 at a community college or take BIOL 319 or 320.  BIOL 2401 will not count as a prerequisite for BIOL 320.

Kinesiology - Exercise Science

Complete four of the required courses with B average and a minimum grade of C

  • Complete MATH 1324 and MATH 1325 (or equivalents)
  • Complete two of the following: BIOL 1406, BIOL 1407,  CHEM 1411, CHEM 1412, PHYS 1401, PHYS 202 (or equivalents)
  • Recommended (but not required) courses: ENGL 1302, SPCH 1315, PHED 1301, PSYC 2301,
  • Students must take BIOL 319 and BIOL 320 (Anatomy & Physiology I & II) at Texas A&M

Kinesiology - Physical Education Teacher Certification and Dance Science

Complete four of the following courses with a C or better in each course:

  • Complete MATH 1324 and 1325 (or equivalents)
  • Complete two of the following: BIOL 1406 (or equivalent), PHYS 1401 (or equivalent), *BIOL 2401, *BIOL 2402
  • Recommended (but not required) courses: ENGL 1302, 2311 and PHED 1301

*BIOL 2401 and BIOL 2402 are not direct equivalents for BIOL 319 and 320 but can substitute for this degree. Students must take either BIOL 2401 and 2402 at a community college or take BIOL 319 or 320.  BIOL 2401 will not count as a prerequisite for BIOL 320.

Sport Management and University Studies Dance Concentration

Complete the following courses with a C or better in each course:

  • Complete MATH 1324 and 1325 (or equivalents)
  • Complete any two core curriculum Life and Physical Science courses (see core.tamu.edu) preferably BIOL 1406, GEOL 1403, CHEM 1411, PHYS 1401 (or equivalents)
  • Recommended (but not required) courses: ENGL 1302, ENGL 2311, SPCH 1315, ECON 2302
