Howdy! Welcome to the Department of Health and Kinesiology (HLKN)! The Department of HLKN is one of four departments in the College of Education & Human Development at Texas A&M University and is currently home to about 2,100 undergraduate majors, 150 graduate students, 90 faculty members, 25 staff members, and 70 graduate assistants. There are four major divisions in the department which include Health Education, Kinesiology, Sport Management, and the Physical Education Activity Program (PEAP).
The Divisions of Health Education, Kinesiology and Sport Management house our undergraduate and graduate programs that include applied exercise physiology, basic exercise physiology, community health, motor behavior, safety education, school health, sport management, and sports pedagogy. The Physical Education Activity Program offers health and fitness activity classes that service all Texas A&M students as part of the university core curriculum. Our departmental courses generate about 125,000 student credit hours each year, which ranks us 2nd in the University.
The Department of HLKN has outstanding faculty, staff, students, and facilities and has been consistently recognized as one of the nation's top programs. Our faculty and students are actively engaged in the practice and study of physical activity, sport, and health. We hope that this website helps you gain insight as to the many outstanding faculty, programs and activities within the Department.
The Department is an active member of the American Kinesiology Association. We join in the efforts of the AKA to promote the discipline of Kinesiology as a field of study and to highlight its applications that affect all through research to enhance people's health.
